Hundred Acre is an urban farm prototype providing a rapid response solution to food insecurity in the heart of Milwaukee. Here, workforce development and student apprenticeship programs are integrated to grow consistent, premium greens to be sold direct to local food businesses.
A closed loop hydroponic system built on site provides the platform for growing multiple varieties of greens, while a climate controlled farm box allows for year round operation, even in cold weather months.
The farm itself is constructed using a basic and affordable kit-of-parts, some of which was built by the farm technicians themselves. This low-cost, low-tech approach to the construction process allows for the prototype to be deployed quickly at other urban infill sites.
