Matthew Hettler

Overview

Matthew is a principal and co-founder of Format. He contributes to the design and delivery of all projects in the office and oversees the internal operations and finances to ensure that the firm’s design vision and level of service are constantly aligned. To help streamline this process, he recently led the design and development of Format Projects, a proprietary project management software that helps our team and clients work together to more efficiently realize architectural projects. He is currently implementing a beta version of Format Projects for internal use at Format Architecture Office, with the launch of a full version anticipated for later this year.

Experience

Prior to founding Format, Matthew worked at Deborah Berke Partners in New York City where he helped manage the design and delivery of a range of residential and institutional projects throughout the city. He was also integral in the design of several large-scale invited competition entries in London, Indianapolis, and Brooklyn, including the winning design for the Cummins employee offices in Indianapolis, IN.

Education

Matthew holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University’s School of Architecture, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan.
